VIDEO: A Birthday Card for Princess Sadie featuring Unity Stamp Co. & Lawn Fawn

Happy Friday!  Today I have a very special card for a very special young lady!  My niece is having a birthday and I wanted to create something to make her feel like a princess!  So I used my brand new Sweet Little Halloween stamp set from Unity Stamp Co. that has this adorable little princess gal and combined her with some Lawn Fawn images and a custom sentiment just for Sadie!

This card was originally supposed to be a one-layer card but sometimes, in spite of our best intentions, the creative inspiration grabs us mid-project and we veer off in a completely new direction.  My clean and simple concept evolved into a fun pop-up card to display Princess Sadie's entire kingdom!  The front of the card was created using some masking and Distress Inks.  I used my Copic markers to color Miss Princess there.  Milo's ABCs from Lawn Fawn provided the perfect font for a custom sentiment.  I love the Lawn Fawn alphabet sets because the letters are cut to rectangles that line up beautifully on your acrylic block!

For the inside, I used the Pop-Up Trio dies from Mama Elephant to create the super fun castle surprise!  The castle is from one of the cutest stamp sets ever, Critters Ever After by Lawn Fawn.  The clouds were created using the Puffy Clouds Border Dies, also from Lawn Fawn.

It was so much fun to create this card for my niece!  The stamps from these two fabulous companies really worked well to make my project come to life.  For a full tutorial (and a special message for Sadie) check out the video.  I'll list all the supplies below, so if you're interested, just keep scrolling!  Thanks for joining me!  See you again soon!  Bye!

VIDEO: Using All Those Extra Pieces featuring Lawn Fawn Cuties

Happy Monday, crafty friends!  Today I am sharing a card that utilizes some of those leftover elements we all end up with after we complete a fancy scene card to create a completely different project.

I've been on a forest scene kick here of late and when I build a scene I tend to way over estimate the number of trees/mushrooms/hedgehogs, etc. that I will need to make it feel complete.  Thus, I am left with all of these sad little pieces that have been meticulously colored and fussy cut and now are homeless.  Typically, I save all of these pieces because I'm super inspired to create for them a place to belong and then about a week goes by and I get tired of always having to move them out of my way and they inevitably end up in the trash.  SO I got and uncharacteristic burst of post-complicated-scene-card energy and created a second, cleaner and simpler card with my leftovers.

I did create a few more necessary layout pieces but it didn't take more than ten minutes to prep a frame and some stitched rectangles using my Big Shot and some dies by Lawn Fawn and Simon Says Stamp.  I distressed all the edges with some Walnut Stain Distress Ink and then I did stamp a snail from the Lawn Fawn Gleeful Gardens stamp set (one of my all time faves!) and color him him with Prismacolors to match the other pieces before fussy cutting him out.  All of the elements are from various Lawn Fawn stamp sets and I'll list all of the supplies below.

http://lawnscaping.blogspot.com/2015/08/lawnscaping-challenge-embossing.html

This card came together in a breeze!  I spent about 20 minutes (super speed in my cardmaking world) from beginning to end on this little guy.  I'm also going to enter this project in the Lawnscaping Challenge #112: Embossing since the little panel on the front has some fun embossed woodgrain detail.  This is not a shock since it is left over from the card I made for my first entry in this challenge!  So double score!

For a full tutorial of this card, click the video.  To see the card that produced the leftovers, click here.  Thanks for stopping by on this crafty Monday!  I hope I've inspired you to give your leftovers some love!  See you soon! Bye!

VIDEO: Embossing, Prismacolors, & Finding Bigfoot

Good morning!  Welcome back to another project post and video.  Today I am creating an entry for the current Lawnscaping Challenge #112: Embossing.  I was quite inspired by this one and did some heat embossing and dug into my collection of embossing folders and dry embossed the elements of this little scene.

All of the elements for this card were colored using Prismacolor pencils on kraft or colored cardstock.  I love the vibrant color that this technique provides.  Usually when I used this form of coloring I'm creating a one-layer card so it was fun to try something new and fussy cut all of these elements out of the kraft.

I used about four stamp sets and two die sets from Lawn Fawn for this scene.  I love to combine all of their amazingly cute images to add complexity and depth to my projects.  I have listed all of the supplies I used below if you're interested.  It's also fun to take the stamps and do something with them that maybe wasn't the original intent of the stamp.  For example,  I used the yeti from the Yeti, Set, Go stamp set and made him Bigfoot.  I'm up in the Pacific Northwest and I just felt this was the most appropriate use of this little guy.

Thanks for stopping by for this Lawnscaping Challenge entry!  You can see a full tutorial in the video below as well as a list of all the supplies if you keep on scrolling.  I'll be back soon with another entry that I put together using the leftover elements from this card . . . always a great way to stretch your supplies!  See you soon!  Bye!

FWF: Distress Inky Stripes ~ Unity Quick Tip

Hi all! I've got a super quick card to share that I was inspired to make by a video that Angela posted on the Unity Facebook page!  I had to make this card in less that 20 minutes as the hubby and kiddo impatiently tapped their feet waiting for me. The good news is this technique is really simple and produces great results.  The better news is now I have a 45 minute car ride to my mother-in-law's house to blog about it!!

Go check out the video for a tutorial but the basic concept is to use some washi tape or other low tack tape to mark stripes on your paper and then use Distress Inks to fill in the colors. I used watercolor paper and sone Donna Downey Unity stamps to create my piece. The card base is embossed with a Tim Holtz embossing folder and then distressed and the front panel is popped up on craft foam.

I hope you enjoyed this quick Friends with Flair project!  Go check out the video and try it out! See you next time!  Bye!

VIDEO: Creating a Scene with Paper Smooches & Zig Markers

Good evening and thanks for stopping by to check out my latest project featuring the adorable Paper Smooches Forest Whimsy stamp set and the ever popular Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.  I'm just going to start by saying that this card snuck right into my heart and set up shop.  I am simply enamored with this little gnomey guy and the dandelion whimsy background (you gotta watch the video to get the reference . . . )

I colored all of my images using my beloved Ziggy Zig markers and fussy cut them right up to the line so I could build my little scene.  For the hills, I used the Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle and Stitched Hillside Borders dies and then used a few different embossing folders to add some texture and dimension.  And just for kicks, I then distressed over that dimension with some Peeled Pain Distress Ink to create a really rich background for Mr. Gnomey to hang out in.

For a full list of supplies used for this project, just scroll down.  And to see a complete tutorial from start to finish, check out the video on my YouTube channel.

I am entering this project in the current Anything Goes Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge.  I love all of the Paper Smooches sets and you should all go enter the challenge!  They have some way cute free digital downloads you can print with you home computer and then use on your projects to enter the challenge if you don't have any PS stamps. How cool is that?!

Thanks again for joining me for this project!  Don't forget to check out the giveaway I'm doing now to celebrate 50 YouTube subscribers!  There are freebies, you wanna check it out :)  Have a great night! Bye!

VIDEO: SSS Mini Haul, Prismacolors, & Pop-Up Kitties

Happy early Saturday morning (since I'm once again up past midnight feeding my craft addiction)!  I've got another fun video for ya tonight with a mini haul from Simon Says Stamp - so many good deals!!! - and a clean and simple card using some cute little kitties by Docrafts Papermania and the Mama Elephant Pop-Up Trio dies.

To color these precious little gals I busted out my Prismacolor pencils and gamsol.  This technique had kind of accumulated some cobwebs in my house as I started growing my Copic collection, discovering watercolors, and gettin' Ziggy wit' it; but it was really fun to knock those cobwebs off and get my gamsol on!  I taught myself this technique by watching YouTube videos when I first began stamping a year ago and it's really fun for me to now be able to film my own video, hopefully inspiring someone else to pursue their crafty passion!

These pop-up dies by Mama Elephant were really simple to use and created such a fun effect!  I love the way this card turned out and I'll be getting some more Little Meow stamps in the future because I really think these kitties need some friends . . .

For a full list of supplies used for this project, check out the list below.  Don't forget to watch the video to learn all the juicy details and peek at my SSS goodies!  It's been a month since I started my YouTube channel so I'm pretty sure a giveaway needs to happen soon so check back for that!  I've got some extra stamp sets I'm just dying to share with you all!  Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you soon! Bye!

Kards by Kennedy: Happy Fall FWF

Hi my name is Kennedy and I am 8 years old.  This is about my 5-ish Friends with Flair and today I am making a card with a squirrel and a raccoon that says happy fall friend. Autumn Pals is the name of the stamp set.

So first I got the Autumn Pals and I used the squirrel and the racoon and I put them on a separate piece of white cardstock and I stamped them.  I didn't use die cuts I actually cut them with my scissors that I have at home and so they're kind of okay but I kind of cut off the raccoon's tail and the squirrel's tail.  I colored them with my colored pencils first.  The gray Crayola colored pencil for the squirrel and the dark tan color for the raccoon. Then I put some foam tape on the back and I stuck them on my card.

And I embossed the "happy" with a light gold and for the "fall friend" I used a darkish-lightish gold and then I used my Tuxedo Black Ink to stamp my mushrooms and my acorns onto my card base.  I colored in the acorns with the same color I used for the raccoon.  I added some washi tape above the sentiment and mushrooms and acorns. And then I used some Wink of Stella on the squirrel and the raccoon's black parts and on the whole mushroom and the tops of the acorns.  And that's pretty much it.

Bye!  I hope you come to my inspiration board on Pinterest and pin some of my stuff on your inspiration board.  My inspiration board is called Kennedy's Kard Inspiration.  Thanks!

FWF: DisTress with a Capital Tea!

Happy Friday evening!  Kennedy and I found time today to participate in our first Friends with Flair over at Unity Stamp Co. in basically forever!  So we're really excited to be participating again.  FWF is one of our favorite activities to do together so check out her Kards with Kennedy post if you haven't already.  She writes them herself and they basically rock the party.

For my entry I chose the Beau-tea-ful Friend stamp set and paper pieced the adorable little teacup.  I used a Ranger Emboss It pen to color in some of the accents and then heat emboss them in gold.  I think it really went a long way toward making this look like a set of china.

Then I distressed the heck out of the background and the teacup and my sentiment strips with some Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I even tried the whole "crumple-my-paper-into-a-ball-and-then-uncrumple-it" look for some really neat vintage distressing.  Then I just used my Zig glue pen to adhere everything right onto the front of a 4.25" square cardbase made from Simon Says Stamp Olive cardstock.  A little Christmas Red Stickles on the steamy heart and this card was done!

Thanks for stopping by!  Don't forget to visit Kennedy's post and check out some of the videos I've been putting up!  See you all next time!  Bye!

VIDEO: Gettin' Ziggy Wit' It: CTMH Gold Embossing & Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers

Hi there and welcome to another Close to My Heart Edition blog post and video!  Today we are gettin' Ziggy wit' it and bustin' out my brand new beautiful box of Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.  I'm a bit enamored with these things . . . watch the video, I only mention how much I love them about 8,000 times.

For this project I featured some beautiful stamp sets from Close to My Heart, both of which are retiring at the end of this month so be sure to follow the links to get yours while you still can!  I kind of really want a Heidi Swapp Minc machine what with foiling being all the rage right now but since I'm trying to be good and not spend all our money on crafty goodness I decided to create the gold foil look with some heat embossing.  Something about the gold embossing on kraft cardstock really speaks to me!

I used In the Background for the gorgeous gold filigree and Lifting Spirits to create this whimsical, romantic card.  And, of course, my Ziggy markers.  For a look at how well these bad boys blend all by themselves - no artistic talent required, trust me - check out the video tutorial below.

A full list of the supplies I used can be found below and I thank you for stopping by!  I hope you found some inspiration for your CTMH goodies and a strong desire to get Ziggy wit' it!  See you all next time!  Bye!

Gorjuss Zigs: Coloring a Gorjuss Image with Zig Clean Color Markers

Hi all!  I'm back with a card featuring You Brought Me Love for Santoro's Gorjuss line.  These stamps are so beautiful, I want every single one!  My Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers came in the mail a couple of days ago (almost an entire month early!!  Eeeee!!) and I have been dying to play with them.  So I finally got some free time this weekend and chose this lovely lady to color.

I started by using my Tim Holtz Alterations ATC & Corners Bigz Die to cut the panel that I stamped my Gorjuss lady on.  I used Ranger Archival Jet Black ink to stamp her so that it wouldn't run when I used the water based Zig markers.  I was really just wanting to see what would work and what wouldn't with the markers so I wanted to try doing some skin tones, some hair, and then blending colors.  The two colors on her dress are fairly far apart in tone but blended beautifully for a really pretty ombre effect.  I'm going to have to make a video using these bad boys soon!

My card base is kraft cardstock and it is slightly smaller than an A2 card.  I used some flowers I had left over from another project (see that video here) and some strips of paper from the March 2015 Simon Says Stamp Card Kit.  I also used the Lawn Fawn Stitched Border dies to add some detail to the paper strips.  I am entering this card in Simon Says Stamp Tie It Up Wednesday Challenge so I added some Lawn Trimmings with some cute little accent knots to tie the green back in.  The card base is also dry embossed with a Cuttlebug folder.

I hope you enjoyed this little peek at the Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.  I have listed all of the supplies I used below.  Stop back soon for more crafty happiness!  Bye!

VIDEO: Fuse & Flowers: Shaker Floral Vase Using the Fuse Tool

Happy Sunday to you all!  Today I am sharing my entry for the Sparkle and Shine Challenge.  I just picked up the We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool and couldn't wait to create a fun shaker pocket with it.  I decided to recreate the inspiration photo for the challenge with lots of dimension and a faux glass vase made with my Fuse Tool!

The flowers for this project were cut using the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals Garland die and everything is inked up with Distress Inks (for a full list of supplies used, see below).  I had a blast arranging all of these gorgeous flowers to create a colorful, summery bouquet.

And I just love how the vase turned out!  The jumbo glitter creates the illusion of decorative pebbles and the dimension added by the shaker pocket fits perfectly with all the dimension of the flowers.  And let's not forget the amazing sparkle of all those Pretty Pink Posh sequins in the centers of the flowers!  The new iridescent colors are my absolute fave!  Check out the Sparkle and Shine Challenge for a chance to win a gift card to the PPP shop!

For a full tutorial on how I made this card, check out the video on my YouTube channel.  All the supplies are listed below if you're interested in anything I've used.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you again soon with another project and video!  Bye!

VIDEO: Mixed Media Canvas: SSS July Card Kit Sail Away

Good evening and welcome to my third blog post and video of the weekend!  Sometimes I go through crafty lulls and then get super re-energized and have cardmaking marathons!  Last week was really busy and I wasn't able to spend much quality time with my stamps but this weekend hubby left for a work trip and I just holed up and created!  I mean, I miss the hubs but I'm not gonna complain about all the alone time in my craft room . . .

Today I was inspired by the Monday Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp.  This week it is No Ordinary Paper and it is all about using different types of paper that you don't normally work with.  So I decided to step WAY out of my comfort zone and attempt a mixed media piece with some tissue paper and book pages.  I even took it one step further and put all this on a canvas rather than a card.

I love the look of mixed media pieces but have never been brave enough to try it myself so this was my first real venture into those waters.  I used supplies from the Simon Says Stamp July Card Kit and went with a nautical theme.  Since I don't have a lot of the mediums that are best for this type of product(like gesso) I just made due with what I had lying around.  All in all, I think it turned out pretty well for a first attempt!  Thanks, Simon, for helping me push my boundaries and craft outside the box!

For a full list of the supplies I used and a video tutorial of this project, see below.  I hope you enjoyed my mixed media experiment and I'll see you again soon!

VIDEO: Feathers of the Rainbow ~ Emboss Resist Background & Double Pane Shaker Window featuring Lawn Fawn Feathered Friend

Hi there!  Today I have a video for you that I have been trying to post all week but due to technical difficulties and time constraints have not been able to make it happen!  But, persistence is key and I finally have this lovely project to share with you all!

I used the Lawn Fawn Feathered friend stamp set from the Simon Says Stamp exclusive Stamptember release from last year (can you believe we're almost in September again???)and several colors of Distress Inks to create a vibrant, rainbow background for the front of my double pane shaker card.  This card was originally intended for a Lawnscaping Challenge with a rainbow inspiration but alas, due to the aforementioned technical delays I didn't make the deadline.  No worries though because I was still inspired and that is the whole point!

I made a shaker card like this for a friend's birthday a few months back and I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on Pinterest for the design so I really wanted to do a tutorial to show how I made this cute double paned window that allows you to look through all the pretty shakeys right at the happiness on the inside of the card.

This video will tell you all about it!  If you're interested in any of the supplies that I used I will list them all below.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Stay tuned tomorrow for the Growing in Unity Blog Hop where I will feature a SUPER take on the shaker card (wink, wink)!  Bye!
